Deathcap Mushrooms - £100
PCalico on cotton fabric eco-dyed with logwood bark and an Iron mordant - 10"
Inspired by mushrooms that I photgraphed in the local woods in October, this piece has been made using reclaimed yarns and embroidery silks on Piñatex which is the brand name for eco dyed calico. The product is vegan and completely biodegradable. The loose threads represent the mycelium that grows below the ground and works tirelessly to clean up the environmental damage caused by humanity.

The local woods were photographed by my husband and then I had it printed on Organic Calico fabric. All embroidery threads and yarns used are cotton, wool & silk. The loose threads represent the roots of the trees and plants growing in the woods.

The applique added to some of the mushrooms is a reclaimed net textile. The loose threads represent the mycelium that grows below the ground.

Fashion is pollution

The textile industry is one of the most polluting industries in the world, with the fashion industry being responsible for 10% of global pollution. One of the main issues is the production of fabrics, which pollute rivers and oceans by leaking chemicals and dyes into the local waterways. This piece represents the dyes from a high fashion dress leaching into the oceans and rivers. The dress was printed in the UK on organic calico.

Another piece based on my mushroom photographs. The image was printed on organic calico in the UK and then stitched onto a piece of artists scrim. The oyster mushrooms embroidered using reclaimed yarns and embroidery silks.

Into the woods - SOLD

The local woods were photographed by my husband and then I had it printed on polyester fabric. All embroidery cottons used are cotton, but sustainability is in question because polyester is not biodegradable. The loose threads represent the roots of the trees and plants growing in the woods.
